I-Drive Megamall Gets Master Plan Approval

The multilevel megamall/26-story hotel proposed to be built in Orlando had its master plan approved by the city municipal board today reports the Orlando Business Journal. The next step is for the city council to approve the project currently scheduled Aug. 11.

The Blackmine Group’s related iSquare Mall & Hotel Developer LLC wants to redevelop the International Shoppes strip mall and establish a new mall that includes an observation deck and rotating restaurant on the top floor.

The iSquare Mall & Hotel would feature 749 hotel rooms, 490,213 square feet of retail space, a restaurant, meeting space, skating rink, a 500-seat live performance theater and office space. The project includes an 11-story, 2,780-space parking garage and comes with an estimated $300 million-$400 million price tag.

It would certainly appeal to tourists along the I-Drive Corridor and just may alleviate the crowds at the Mall at Millenia and The Florida Mall. It’s projected to take two to three years to complete, the OBJ article continues.

My name is Mark and I’m a mall-aholic. As a native Orlandoan, I’ve been visiting them since I can remember. I’ve also worked in a couple and consider myself a self-appointed expert. There’s been a lot of change when it comes metro Orlando’s mall landscape, and I’ve taken it upon myself to chronicle it. Each mall has a story to tell, and having graduated from the University of Central Florida and double majored in journalism and radio/television, I feel I’m best equipped to make those stories come alive here at Orlando Mall Guide. So whether you’re a local or a tourist needing a shopping break from the attractions, I’m your hookup.
