Add elegance. "The chandelier gives this space a formal sophisticated ambience" says Grace Kelly principal at Kitchen Designs by Ken Kelly. "It was designed to bring elegance into a traditional eat‐in kitchen and serve as a stylistic focal point".

Show off your tilework. "We like to use frameless shower doors for a couple of reasons" says Mariette Barsoum of Divine Kitchens. "With a frameless door there's no visual separation which make the space larger. Plus unlike framed doors they don't hide the beautiful tilework in the shower. Frameless doors also sport a cleaner more modern look – and we like that". Make a small room feel larger. "I was inspired by the framework of this house and its secluded and forestlike surroundings" says Kimberly Arnold Fletcher of Spectrum Design Group. "My goal was to create an open feel and bring the outside into the master bathroom. The frameless door allowed me to not only provide a transparent look that mirrors the windows added to the space but it also made a very small room feel larger and more spacious".

Being water wise can cut your utility bills reduce the need for costly investments in water treatment and delivery systems and contribute to a more sustainable water future. The bathroom is the place to start since it's the water hog in your home accounting for more than half of the indoor water you use. Check out these water‐wise plumbing fixtures that don't compromise style or function. To find water‐wise fixtures look for the WaterSense label. WaterSense a partnership program with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is an independent organization that reviews plumbing fixtures for water efficiency (among many other jobs). Their certification or approval is given to fixtures that are at least 20 percent more efficient without compromising performance. The average bathroom makeover with WaterSense fixtures saves 7.000 gallons of water annually. That's enough water to wash six months worth of laundry.

Bump‐out table and globe light. A waterfall‐edge table attached to the wall takes up little floor space yet has a big presence. Hanging a simple pendant light directly over the table focuses attention on the area and provides a warmer glow than the regular kitchen lighting.

A natural green. "This farmhouse kitchen was envisioned to be a highly efficient working‐living space featuring natural materials that express their own beauty" says Douglas Dick of LDa Architecture & Interiors. "The monochromatic green color palette of the walls and island cabinetry was selected to be visually calming and to enhance the theme of expressing the beauty of the room's natural materials".

White on white. This kitchen is in sync with the overall design of the house. "It's part of a new French‐inspired home on South River in Annapolis Maryland" says Brad Creer of Bradford Design. "The wife wanted an all‐white house both inside and outside including the furniture. The only other colors are the limited use in some of the accents. And the only nonwhite space in the home is the husband's large barroom which has a dark wood finish".

Notice also the delicate layers of pattern in the tone‐on‐tone wallpaper. A rod (versus chain) installation creates a crisp and somewhat masculine aesthetic that works very well with these drum shades. This eclectic bedroom stretches the limits of minimalism by blending the pendants into the wall. The result is pure function as the aesthetic is more about what is not there. Now this is what I meant by "secret weapon." This otherwise simple bedroom is kicked into high gear with these fabulous pendants. When design goes outside the box magic happens. A guest bedroom is a great place in which to sport a bedside pendant that is unique and memorable. These great pendants look like fancy dinner napkins. The result is a whimsical one‐of‐a‐kind environment for a lucky houseguest.
