Mod seating and fairy‐tale pendant light. Sleek smooth mod plastic chairs create a dynamic counterpoint to an intricate whimsical pendant light here. Sticking with white for the chairs and light fixture keeps this kitchen (with its pink cabinets) from veering into too‐sweet territory.

Ensure proper drainage. Not only will you guard against damage from standing water but you'll also protect yourself from skidding on wet floors. Angle the shower floor slightly so that water flows toward the drain and think about adding a second drain for doubly effective siphoning. Select surfaces that can stand up to moisture. Even with careful attention to an open shower's design splashes and steam will escape. Outfit your bath with surfaces that hold their own against moisture: porcelain or glass tile metal stone solid surfacing engineered quartz and some woods. Avoid fabrics and other materials that are prone to mildew.

A classic serpentine chest of drawers holds a crystal lamp a small sculpture and fresh flowers. Also included here is a small piece of art in dreamy bedroom colors. Art does not have to be hung on a wall. Leaning small artworks against the wall provides a layered look. A step table is a great option beside a bed because it allows layers of surface area. A lamp books art water and fresh flowers all fit on this versatile piece. Notice how the color of the step table adds to the room's palette. A petite tray table with a small drawer has just enough space for a colorful lamp fresh flowers and a small jewelry box. Boxes of any style are great for holding earrings and necklaces taken off just before bed. This homemade bedside table consists of vintage suitcases on blocks. It's a creative and visual win for this room. Notice that the suitcases are on the low side allowing for an adjustable lamp and a full view of the window. All the bedside basics fit onto a tray that provides a flat surface. Consider a wall‐mounted table for the tiniest of spaces. There's just enough room for an adjustable lamp art and an alarm clock. A beautiful white chest of drawers holds a lamp in the center a plant to the left and an alarm clock. Notice the federal‐style mirror to the side of the lamp creating a layered bedside vignette.

This chic square soap pump also by Jason Wu has a style reminiscent of his Brizo faucet. For an exotic flair consider a decorative basin like this one by Kohler. Add gold accent pieces to offset the blue. Hands‐free! Simply tap the faucet with your finger (or a bare elbow or forearm if your hands are full) to control the water flow. This bath provides a stylish alternative to traditional walk‐ins with an extra‐wide opening grab bar and chair‐height seat for easy entry and exit. It fits a standard 60‐inch bath footprint. This ready‐to‐go kit creates the perfect little niche to put anything. It comes with everything you need and is available in a variety of colorways. This system converts your existing fixed showerhead to a handshower and rainhead combination. It's such a quick and easy remodel! A slidebar bracket allows for customized heights perfect for both short and tall members of your family. The Twist allows bathers to quickly switch between four spray settings with a flick or your thumb – handy for those early mornings when hand‐eye coordination has yet to kick in.

This sleek headboard has a secret: It includes sliding panels that open to reveal a hidden cabinet behind. If you can't find what you're looking for and have the budget to do so consider a custom‐built headboard like this example. Different headboard designs also come extended in width with attached drawers. These drawers are handy because they corral storage while acting as built‐in bedside tables. This design features one simple drawer for the side of the bed that can make all the difference. Consider large freestanding pieces that essentially double as storage space and headboard. These are especially convenient if you're converting a space into a bedroom that doesn't contain a closet. These pieces will ground the bed while providing ample space for clothing and necessities. Here is an example of a much larger and likely custom‐built piece that acts as a headboard as well as storage. I assume there is closet space on the other side while the side we see comes complete with shelves and cabinetry. Adding upholstered squares makes the piece look like a more authentic headboard.

Magic mirrors for bedroom and bathroom. While the world waits for the inevitable advancements in glass technology there's still much that's being accomplished with regular glass. Smart mirrors or interactive mirrors are the first application for smart glass technology because they don't need to be transparent. Using existing two‐way‐mirror technology smart mirrors can function in your home like regular mirrors but optionally display information right on the surface of the mirror. One of the better visions for what’s possible with a magic mirror was conceived by of all organizations The New York Times. Yes the Times has its own R&D lab which tries to figure out how people will get news and information in the future. Apparently they’ll get it in the bathroom according to its concept video. The interface for all this breathtaking home technology is just like the evil queen’s technology – magic glass plus voice command and artificial intelligence. The glass surfaces conjure up information and ideas video feeds and communication all appropriate to the context of the user's intent.

Sally's bedroom growing up was a whirlwind of pink wallpaper floral textiles frilly curtains and precious dolls. In typical Draper fashion it was girly but still simple and refined. Now that Sally is getting into her tweens and teens her rebellious side is starting to pop up.Sally's bedroom growing up was a whirlwind of pink wallpaper floral textiles frilly curtains and precious dolls. In typical Draper fashion it was girly but still simple and refined. Now that Sally is getting into her tweens and teens her rebellious side is starting to pop up. Sally may be a a girly girl for at least the beginning of her tween years but as she starts to develop her own style (and delves into the wild style of the early '70s) bold patterns and color may start to make an appearance in her room. Pale pink walls can be replaced with a vibrant (but tasteful) lavender and a bright pink duvet can cover up the old floral bedding. A graphic rug gives this bedoom the final dose of that great mod style.
