Corner window seat and decals. Storage‐filled bench seats tucked into a corner are cozy and practical fitting plenty of people at the breakfast table. Pep up the corner with a few fun and easy‐to‐apply window decals that pick up a hue in your bench cushions.

In typical Draper fashion it was girly but still simple and refined. Now that Sally is getting into her tweens and teens her rebellious side is starting to pop up. Sally may be a a girly girl for at least the beginning of her tween years but as she starts to develop her own style (and delves into the wild style of the early '70s) bold patterns and color may start to make an appearance in her room. Pale pink walls can be replaced with a vibrant (but tasteful) lavender and a bright pink duvet can cover up the old floral bedding. A graphic rug gives this bedoom the final dose of that great mod style.

Pack a powerful punch. "We needed something bold and unexpected to create interest in this tiny formerly drab powder room " says Jennifer Jones of Niche Interiors. "This graphic packed the perfect punch".

Massive paper lantern. Suspended over the table like a full moon the paper lantern is on a grand scale making this dining space so impressive. And while an authentic Noguchi paper lantern is stunning there are paper lanterns available at all prices and in all sizes.

Antique and modern accents pay tribute to tailoring. The globe is an 18th‐century sewing table and the framed piece above is a shirt made out of a folded map of London. Dittmar designed custom bedding and pillows to conjure the crisp look of ties and pocket squares. From show house to your house: If you're stuck in a decorating rut try playing with a theme in one of your bedrooms. It can be something bold – like a sports‐theme kid's room – or something more subtle like Dittmar's design. But by giving yourself a path to follow you'll have less trouble deciding on what pieces to use. The amazing art installation in this bathroom is by artist Michele Pred who uses airport‐confiscated scissors and knives in much of her work. The design team worked with Pred to create a specific installation for this space – a bathtub full of silver scissors snagged by the Transportation Security Administration.

Soften it with chalk. Chalkboard paint is an easy and quick way to add some dark drama to a room. It actually creates quite a soft aesthetic as the paint is incredibly matte. Give it a go – you can always draw some white pictures on it if it's too much!

Covered dining. This dining space has a wood alcove built up and over a table creating an elegant dining space that looks like a private dining booth in an upscale bistro. The mix of materials from the timber paneling to the channeled upholstery and stone table adds sophistication to the alcove's slick urban look.

Let black define a space. Black can create a strong impression in a supporting role. There's plenty of it in this room yet the feel is very light and bright. Go for a crisp white shell then choose black for woodwork furniture and accessories to tap into its dramatic character while keeping the space airy.
